Great post. Big pet peeves of mine. I am very much looking forward to your abstract to speak on this topic being selected and attending. I never understand why people don't test (or ignore altogether) their backups. I wrote about the same topic with a focus on the restores being more important than the backups as one of my first blog posts, http://www.straightpathsql.com/blog/2009/1/14/do-you-focus-too-much-on-your-backups.html

Can't harp on people for this stuff enough. I have been in far too many environments or helped far too many friends, forum people, etc. who practice worst practices above.

Thanks Mike - fingers crossed for the abstract :-)

Do I really need to back up my database.. I mean come on, it is not like they ever fail!!!

Overkill if you ask me, next you will want me to pay for replication software!

Dear Cyclops,

Thanks for the feedback. May I suggest you've taken one too many blows to the head? Perhaps an investment in a new saddle for your horse may be a good career move :-)
